To strengthen the drive of protecting and serving the elderly in the province of Cagayan, the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) recently conducted a two-day training for Senior Citizens (SCs) focal persons of the province which focused on “How to Deal With the Older Persons” at Villa Victoria Hotel, Tuguegarao City on May 3-4, 2012.
According to PSWD Officer Edna T. Junio, the training aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of the SC focal persons especially in the proper caring and guidance of our elderly. “Older persons are weaker and more sensitive as they age, so during these situations, we have to find ways to comfort them. It is on these moments that they need understanding and care. Let us give them the most special treatment,” Junio added.
Meanwhile, SC Coordinator Josephine Lopez advised the SC focal persons to be more patient in handling situations concerning the elderly. She said, dealing with the older persons is not an easy task. It requires a lot of patience in order to cope with some changes in their physical and mental aspect. “May this training don’t just enhance your knowledge to care and deal with them, may it also serve as an eye opener for us to value and give importance to the elderly,” Lopez added.
