Some representatives of United Nations World Food Programme (UN-WFP) and US AID visited the new Provincial Climate Change Disaster and Risk Reduction Management (PCCDRRM) Office housed at CIADP Bldg. at San Gabriel Village, Tuguegarao City last May 8, 2012.
The visit was in consonance with their assessment on the recently installed food storage facility in Amulung. The representatives also visited the town of Enrile to see how receptive the people are in terms of disaster preparedness and response.
It has been noted that Cagayan province is a recipient of the numerous projects and interventions of UN-WFP. The province was awarded with P1Million assistance to help finance the renovation and rehabilitation of the CIADP building for a wider space.
At present, the PCCDRRMC Office is housed at the CIADP Building. UN-WFP Representatives said that the PCCDRRMC Office in Cagayan is said to be bigger than the main office in the country.
According to Bonifacio Cuarteros, Chief, Technical Division of the PSWDO, since May 2012 the office is in operation 24/7 even when there are no disasters.
Abraham Abatneh, UN-WFP Representative and Saripa Alangadi, Project Coordinator of UN-WFP Projects in Cagayan gathered positive feedbacks from the different recipients. Abatneh said that the residents of Enrile and Amulung are now responsive on disaster preparedness issues.
The new PCCDRRMC office is equipped with communication gadgets like base radio, handheld radios and Global Positioning System (GPS) that will help improve the communication network in the province. The equipment was given by UN-WFP as a support to the province’s communication system for disaster preparedness. As a counterpart, the Provincial Government of Cagayan procured Information Technology facilities and upgrades. It also secured NTC Permit and licenses and other accessories for the communication equipment.
