Friendship meet aims to instill unity and camaraderie

“Sports is one of our programs which aim to promote unity and camaraderie,” Governor Alvaro T. Antonio said during the opening of the Friendship Meet at the People’s Gymnasium, Tuguegarao City on June 25, 2012. The activity was one of the highlights of the 429th Aggao Nac Cagayan 2012 celebration.

Since Governor Alvaro T. Antonio assumed position as the father of the province in 2007, sports was one of his continuing programs. Different sports competitions were held inside and outside the capitol like Inter-Office Sports Fest, Inter-Town, Inter Collegiate, Inter-Agency, and the Friendship Meet.

This year’s Friendship Meet featured team from different agencies, universities and places all over the Philippines. Among these were the Team Cagayan, Tuguegarao City, Sta. Maria Isabela, Letran, Municipality of Iguig (Agbiag Team), Far Eastern University (FEU), Philippine Navy, La Salle, Province of Apayao, PhilHealth, Team All Star, Philippine Army, National University, Ateneo, and BCM (Philippine Airforce).

Provincial Sports Coordinator, Criselda I. Antonio said that this year’s Friendship Meet was more exciting compared to previous years. “Since this year had the biggest contingent, we expected to have a more challenging sports event among competing teams. Also, we look forward for a better, bigger, and a healthy competition with other teams in the next years,” Antonio added.

This year’s Friendship Meet highlighted the participation of teams from Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University, Letran College, and Far Eastern University which showed their prowess in playing volleyball. Below is the list of winners:

Basketball
Champion – Team Cagayan
1st place – Team Agbiag
2nd place – Philippine Army
3rd place – Team Tuguegarao City

Volleyball Women
Champion – Ateneo de Manila University
1st place – Team Cagayan
2nd place – Philippine Army
3rd place – Team Tuguegarao City

Volleyball Men
Champion – BCM (Airforce)
1st place – FEU
2nd place – All Star
3rd place – Team Tuguegarao City
