A job fair was held during the celebration of the Aggao Nac Cagayan 2012 last June 24-25, 2012. The activity was among the featured programs of Governor Alvaro T. Antonio through the Provincial Employment Service Office (PESO) and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE). The activity aimed to generate local and overseas employment for Cagayanos.
Some 300 applicants flocked to the Cagayan Sports Complex to look for various opportunities and greener pastures. Twenty (20) overseas recruitment companies and eight (8) local agencies participated in the job fair. Openings offered among the local and overseas agencies include call center agents, hotel and restaurant workers, pharmacists, waiters, teachers, cashiers, book keepers, electricians, laborers, welders, and many more.
According to Elpidio Atal, Jr., the Assistant Regional Director of DOLE, Region 02, the affair is another effort of the Provincial Government of Cagayan in cooperation with DOLE to assist the unemployed in looking for jobs. “DOLE had been very supportive of these kinds of activities. Last year, a total of 100 registrants were hired in the job fair. This year, we hope that many of our participants will be hired again,” ARD Atal said.
Meanwhile, Marites Taccad, Provincial PESO Coordinator, extended her gratitude to DOLE, other participating agencies and all the participants. “We are glad that many of our kababayans joined us in this two-day affair. The support of the Steering Committee of this year’s Aggao is also appreciated,” Taccad added.
