The Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) conducted a massive Information Education and Communication (IEC) Campaign on rabies and responsible pet ownership in celebration of the World Rabies Day which is being commemorated every September 8th of every year.
The PVO visited different elementary schools in the city where they conducted the IEC. Among these schools were Tuguegarao West Central School, Tuguegarao North Central School, Pengue Ruyu Leonarda Elementary School, Carig Elementary School, Tuguegarao East Central School and Tuguegarao Northeast Central School.
Dr. Wilfredo Iquin and Dr. Micaela Ponce of the PVO spearheaded the series of lectures to grades 4 to 6 pupils.
According to Dr. Jaime Guillermo Provincial Veterinarian, the participating schools were selected based on the incidence of rabies in the area.
More than 100 pupils attended the IEC and they were inquisitive and participative during the open forum Dr. Iquin said.
Meanwhile, other activities included in the celebration of the World Rabies Day is the opening of a stray dog facility in the municipality of Claveria, Cagayan. The installation of a dog pound in the said town is to combat the incidence of rabies in the area.
