“We should equip and familiarize our rescuers in this kind of equipment to minimize injury among victims during extrication,” said Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer Edna T. Junio during the orientation on power tools used in a vehicular extrication on January 16, 2013 at Motorpool, Capitol Hills Tuguegarao City.
Resource speaker and trainor Dr. Rted Esguerra, OIC Specialized Medical Assistance Team and member of Coast Guard Elite Rescue Team, gave a lecture among the members of Rescue 29 on Fire Rescue, Technical Rescue, Specialized Rescue, Medical Component and the Principles of Vehicle Extrication.
Esguerra also highlighted extrication techniques, communications, and incident command functions.
Cagayan Rescue 29 members through the assistance of Esguerra experienced actual spreading, cutting, ramming, and strutting of a vehicle.
Moreover, members were trained on proper handling of equipment and the use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) during disaster.
Further enhancement on various rescue techniques will be conducted this year to train and improve rescue skills of the members of Rescue 29.
