“Cagayan, agga number one!” This was Team Cagayan’s cheer as they lifted their trophy and presented it to Governor Alvaro T. Antonio. The trophy is the prize for being the overall champion in the recently concluded Cagayan Valley Regional Athletic Association (CAVRAA) meet held last February 16-19, 2013 in Ilagan City, Isabela.
Surpassing different teams in the region, Team Cagayan garnered a score of 750 points while the province of Isabela as second placer only scored 500 points.
Speaking before a hundred athletes, Governor Alvaro T. Antonio recognized their efforts and dedication in standing out among other competing teams in the region. He encouraged the athletes to strive more and excel in their chosen careers in the future. “Do your best and make every effort to be champions not only in sports but in real life,” said the Governor.
Schools Division Superintendent Fely Lattao extended her deepest appreciation to the Governor in supporting the team by providing uniforms, meals, and allowances for the athletes. Lattao proudly said that many of our athletes qualified to play in the Palarong Pambansa which will be held on April 21-28, 2013 in Dumaguete City.
Meanwhile, Governor Alvaro T. Antonio personally awarded incentives to the winning team and their coaches.
Competed events in the CAVRAA 2013 were basketball, volleyball, chess, sepak takraw, swimming, track and field, taekwondo, archery, arnis, football, badminton, boxing, and baseball.
