In line with his campaign of promoting a healthy lifestyle and camaraderie, Governor Alvaro T. Antonio led the opening of the 6th Governor Alvaro T. Antonio (GATA) Inter-agency sportsfest held at the Cagayan Sports Complex on February 19, 2013.
Participated by 23 competing agencies, provincial officials, some local chief executives, students, civilians, employees and other visitors, the activity started with a program in consonance with the annual conduct of the inter-agency sportsfest, which starts every month of February.
According to Governor Alvaro T. Antonio a total of P2.8 M fund from different sponsors was allotted to finance the expenses of the activity. “I will also be giving one million to the Provincial Sports Committee to be utilized for the purchase of sports equipments and other needs of the participants. Congressman Jack Enrile of the 1st District will also award one million assistance to the committee. These funds will answer other needs of the members and participants of the month-long activity,” the Governor said.
On the other hand, Governor Antonio hoped that the province will establish its own sports commission in the future. He said, “We are planning to host the Palarong Pambansa in the future. If we have our own sports commission we can spearhead various sports activities and events in the province,” the Governor disclosed.
Vice Governor Leonides N. Fausto likewise honored all participants during the opening of the sportsfest. He expressed his gratitude to the dedication and enthusiasm of all members. “Today marks the 6th year of the Governor Alvaro T. Antonio Inter-agency sportsfest. We are glad that up to this time, you are giving full support and cooperation on this endeavor. We hope that after this event a stronger partnership will bind you and the Provincial Government of Cagayan. Good luck and our advance congratulations to all of you,” Vice Governor Fausto said.
Meanwhile, the newly appointed Provincial Sports Coordinator, Rambo Fausto in his message said that he will take the position given to him by the Governor as a challenge. “To become the provincial sports coordinator is a difficult job, but with everybody’s cooperation success will be at our side. I am asking for your support to make all sports endeavors successful. To all the competing teams, let us observe sportsmanship and unity, ” Fausto declared.
A lighting of torch headed by Rambo Fausto and ceremonial toss for basketball led by Governor Antonio, Vice Governor Leonides Fausto, 3rd District Board Members and SK Federation President Trisha Ann Trinidad were conducted.
