The Provincial Government of Cagayan is gearing up for the conduct of this year’s 430th founding anniversary of the province. Popularly known as the Aggao Nac Cagayan festival, this year’s event will be another showcase of exciting and colorful activities that depict the rich Cagayano culture, heritage, customs and traditions,” said Edna T. Junio, PSWD Officer and Aggao Nac Cagayan 2013 Chairperson.
The event will be held on June 26-30, 2013, starting with a fun run at dawn on the first day. Afterwhich a program will be conducted to officially open the five-day festivities. “Many of the activities have become all-time favorites among the crowd; they have been included again to bring fun and enjoyment. But, this year we have new events that will add color and glitz to our five-day provincial fiesta,” Junio added. (see page 6 for the schedule of activities)
The Aggao Nac Cagayan 2013 activities are also anchored on Governor Alvaro T. Antonio’s 10-K agenda (Katapatan, Kaunlaran, Kabuhayan, Kalusugan, Kapayapaan, Karunungan, Kawang-gawa, Kalikasan, Kalakalan, Katarungan). “The activities are all very meaningful because these are all in line with the province’s goals in achieving continuous progress and development,” Junio said.
Meanwhile, a new theme had been conceptualized for this year’s provincial festivities. “Cagayan, davvun a kakastan nyakan” depicts the sense of pride of every Cagayano of his beloved province. “Cagayan is known as the smiling land of beauty. It boasts of wondrous offerings in many aspects, from customs and traditions, arts and culture, to beautiful people and breathtaking places. Through Aggao Nac Cagayan, we would like to instill a sense of pride among Cagayanos on their wonderful hometown. Pride of one’s beloved province must start first from within, so that we can fully and proudly promote our province to others,” Junio said.
The anniversary celebration is supported by various Aggao Nac Cagayan 2013 committee heads, officials of the province, LGUs, government agencies, non-government agencies, national and local media, religious groups, civic groups and the academe. The event also expects the participation of thousands of people from different towns and even from other provinces far from Cagayan. Guests, visitors and even balikbayans are also expected to grace the occasion.
A total of P4 million budget had been allotted by the province for the conduct of the various activities and for other expenditures of the Aggao Nac Cagayan 2013. Globe Telecommunications, San Miguel Corporation, Ginebra San Miguel, Photo City and Badong Photography are among this year’s major sponsors.
