In order to encourage the women sector of Cagayan in promoting healthy lifestyle, the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) spearheaded the first-ever Search for the Biggest Loser held at the Cagayan National High School Library on June 26, 2013.
Biggest Loser is also an endeavor which emphasizes diet and exercise and how to lose weight the natural way.
According to Magnolia Tahiyam, Biggest Loser coordinator, contestants should be members of KALIPI, an association of women in the communities. They are also given three (3) months to do their own steps in losing weight. “They are advised not to take slimming drugs or beverages,” Tahiyam said.
“Weighing in of the contestants is also conducted to calculate the difference of their original weight to their current weight. The contestant who has the largest weight loss will be declared the winner,” Tahiyam added.
Nine (9) contestants from the municipalities of Aparri, Claveria, Peñablanca, Sta, Teresita, Pamplona, Camalaniugan, Amulung, Sanchez Mira, and Tuguegarao City joined the contest. A talent portion was also held during the search.
Winners for the Biggest Loser were Rosita Lorenzo of Claveria, 4th runner-up with P4,500; 3rd runner-up was Norma Calagno of Tuguegarao City; 2nd runner-up was Victoria Superal of Amulung; 1st runner-up was Arcely Solmerin of Sta.
