The evaluation of the proposed SWIP areas in the whole province of Cagayan is now being conducted.

According to Mildred Abella Provincial Agriculturist, the proposed SWIP sites include the Lakambini, Tuao, the rehabilitation of the Pusian SWIP in Alcala and the spillway of the Cataliganan, Lasam SWIP.

The Technical and Engineering Division of the OPA continuously assesses and monitors the proposed sites of the said projects.

With the support of the Provincial Government of Cagayan, and through the counterparting system of the Department of Agriculture, the program on the water system or irrigation for the farmers is expected to be carried out soon.

Currently, there are 16 SWIPs in the different towns in the province and these help in the irrigation of farmlands. “The SWIPs are important to our farmers. These provide them better ways to improve their crops and produce,” Abella said.  (with reports from Aida Cabauatan)
