Board Member Christian Guzman of the 3rd district of the province requested the inclusion of Committee on Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction Management (CDRRM) in the SP Standing Committees during the 4th Regular Session of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan held at the SP Session Hall, Capitol Hills, Tuguegarao City.

According to BM Guzman, the inclusion of the committee will strengthen the present inter-agency or multi-sectoral coordination mechanism for disaster preparedness and response in Cagayan. “All sectors of society now feel the effects of stronger typhoons, longer drought spells, earthquakes, tornados, tsunamis, flash floods and other disasters.   Therefore, there is a need for us to focus and manage the risks brought about by such,” he added.

Guzman believes that the inclusion of the committee in the SP Standing Committees will help formulate more enabling policies, legislations, systems and mechanisms to mitigate and alleviate the effects of climate change and global warming in the province.

During the inauguration of the Provincial Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office located at CIADP Building, San Gabriel, Tuguegarao City, BM Guzman congratulated the people behind the success of the new office and he assured his support on disaster management particularly on legislative matters. He said that he will initiate the acquisition of complete equipment for quick actions and responses during calamities or disasters in the province.
