Salun-at Ti Umili (STU), the TV program of the Provincial Health Office (PHO), celebrated its first year anniversary on last August 14, 2013. STU TV program is among the strategies of PHO in promoting healthy lifestyle among Cagayanos.

According to Dr. Marcos Mallillin, Provincial Health Officer, the first year of STU was a success and has been a productive year for the PHO. “The success of PHO’s TV program has been successful due to the support of the various departments of the Provincial Government of Cagayan, our Municipal Health Offices, our various district hospital, our friends from the Department of Health and other government agencies,” Dr. Mallillin said.

Meanwhile, a special anniversary episode of STU was aired last August 14, 2013 on RBC channel with a special video presentation, which showed the various health projects in Cagayan. Governor Alvaro T. Antonio commended the TV program’s success and assistance in the health needs of Cagayanos. “One of the important mandates of the PGC is the health for the people of Cagayan, and the PHO’s STU has initialized this mandate,” Governor Antonio said.

To evaluate the TV program, a random survey was conducted among public viewers. The survey showed positive reactions and comments from its selected regular audience. With this, more segments are expected to be aired for the rest of this year. “One of the goals of STU is to reach more audience in the region,” Dr. Mallillin added.

On the other hand, STU will continue to air the most-requested “Usapang Pangkalusugan” health segment. This will include free consultations to the televiewers by specialists for an hour through texting. The second part of the program is the health information and education, which runs for an hour. The guests on the program will be announced ahead for the next episodes and this will give a chance to televiewers to prepare their questions. The last segment is the “Balitang Pangkalusugan.”

The STU airs live every Wednesdays at 9am-10am, with replays at 6pm-7pm and Fridays 6-7pm. Televiewers may ask STU their health questions through mobile numbers 0917-5563111 and 0917-5184419. These numbers are flashed on the screen during the program. The program is anchored by  Ma. Lourdes Bangan and Rose Fe Ancheta, Health Promotion Officers of PHO.

STU is a continuing project with the support of Department of Health, PhilHealth, Municipal Hospitals, Commission on Human Rights, Philippine National Police, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Cagayan Medical Society, Cagayan Valley Medical Center, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, Provincial Information Office and the RBC Cable technical staff.
