Jejomar C. Binay, Sr., the Vice President of the country extended a total of P2M financial assistance to the senior citizens in various municipalities of Cagayan and half a million pesos as hospitalization funds for the use of poor Cagayanos in the different district hospitals during his visit in the province last August 16, 2013.

VP Binay awarded P500,000 each to the Office of the Senior Citizens Association (OSCA) in towns of Iguig, Amulung, Alcala and Gattaran. He emphasized that these funds are for the programs and projects of the senior citizens that may redound to their health, well-being and overall welfare. “Let us give priorities to our elders. They deserve our utmost help, assistance and care. They have been the builders of our communities; we owe them a great lot,” VP Binay said.

During his visit in the municipality of Gattaran, VP Binay inaugurated the town’s OSCA and extended an amount of half a million pesos to finance further projects of the association. He said that the amount was sourced out from the funds of the Office of the Vice President. “I have allocated funds for the construction of OSCAs in the various parts of the country. In Cagayan, we have allocated funds for the same, thus we are now awarding them.” he said.

VP Binay also awarded the four wheelchairs, two (2) nebulizer sets, and a sphygmomanometer for the use of senior citizens in OSCA, Gattaran. “Gattaran is the first recipient of these additional equipment. This will be a continuing commitment for other OSCAs in the country,” he further said.

In addition to the cash aid for senior citizens, VP Binay also offered the province an amount of another half a million pesos for hospitalization funds of poor Cagayanos in the different district hospitals. Binay said that these amount will be allocated for walk-in patients; urging the local people to avail of free health services in the respective district hospitals in their area whenever they need to.

Meanwhile, Governor Alvaro T. Antonio led the local officials and barangay folks in extending gratitude to Vice President Binay for the assistance extended to the province. He said that the visit of VP Binay in Cagayan manifests the strong partnership of the Office of Vice President and the province of Cagayan.

Speaking among the group of Mayors and barangay officials in Alcala, Governor Antonio urged the local officials to show the province’s unity in assemblies as such. He also urged them to continue with their local programs for the Cagayanos. “Let us show our unity as Cagayanos. Let us work together for a progressive Cagayan,” he said.

Various Mayors also had a chance to discuss with VP Binay about possible programs and projects for their respective towns including agriculture development assistance, social welfare, and disaster management. VP Binay gladly took note of these issues and concerns and he said he will try to extend his capacities to give attention to these immediate matters.

VP Binay’s visit to the province was a stopover of his duty call to affected areas of Isabela and Nueva Vizcaya during the onslaught of the Typhoon Labuyo. He extended assistance to victims of the disaster in the two provinces.
