Board Member Pascual, as the Chairman of the Committee on Health and Sanitation Technology/Population, proposed an ordinance for Health and Sanitation Code of the Province of Cagayan in order to address the problem on health and sanitation in the various towns of Cagayan
The code aims to strengthen health and sanitation in the province, especially on food and water safety. The code also prescribes sanitary requirements for all establishments and businesses in the different municipalities. In addition, the code also prescribes penalties for violations by individuals and establishments.
According to BM Pascual, the Presidential Decree No. 856 otherwise known as the Sanitation Code of the Philippines is a significant landmark in the improvement of health and sanitation services in our country. It improved the Filipino way of life by directing health and sanitation services towards the upliftment of health conditions and promotion of the well-being of the Filipino people. “It’s time that the province of Cagayan should have a Health and Sanitation Code to ensure, support and promote health and safety and to attain a balanced ecology. The ordinance is laudable, hence, there is a need for its approval,” she added.
The said ordinance was approved in the plenary for 2nd reading.
