A total of 1,117 cases in Cagayan from August 1 to September 7, 2013 was reported by the Provincial Health Office (PHO) through the Provincial Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (PESU).
According to the report of PHO-PESU, out of these cases 5 deaths were recorded. These deaths were in Gattaran (1), Sto. Niño (1), Solana (2) and Tuguegarao City (1).
PESU recorded a 31% increase in the number of cases this year compared to last year’s record of 2,367 cases on the same period. The most affected group remains to be children from 0-10 years old, with 554 cases recorded.
Tuguegarao City has the most number of cases with 330 cases, followed by Alcala (121), Aparri (79), Baggao (68), Gattaran (59) and Lasam (53). Meanwhile, Sta. Praxedes is reported to be the only municipality that is dengue-free.
Meanwhile, PHO recommends the public to be more pro-active in dengue prevention through respective and household clean-ups to prevent the increase in cases. “It is also important to seek early consultation in the health centers for early diagnosis of the disease,” said Dr. Marcos Mallillin, Provincial Health Officer.
