The Provincial Veterinary (PVet) Office organized the Cagayan Cattle Raisers during the Organizational Meeting and Briefing for Livestock Cattle Raising at Villa Victoria Hotel, Tuguegarao City on September 9, 2013.
According to Dr. Jaime G. Guillermo, Provincial Veterinarian, the activity aimed to address issues and concerns affecting the cattle raisers through a series of lectures and technical and training that would augment and enhance their capability and productivity.
Furthermore, Guillermo said that the Cagayan Cattle Raisers should be organized to bridge the connection between the raisers, consumers and also the government wherein they will serve as the voice that will represent the cattle raisers and breeders in the community.
During the activity, an election of officers was conducted. Joseu Balderama Jr. was elected as President, Desiderio Paccalagan as Vice-president, Domingo Victorino as Treasurer and Sheryl Agbayani as Secretary. The board of directors were Gino Dayag, Mariano Goze and Alejo Asuten.
Dr. Jose Arceo N. Bautista, University Professor of the University of the Philippines conducted the lecture on cattle-livestock raising. Bautista stressed that technical know-how and management information on cattle raising are needed so that cattle reproduction and breeding will be successful. He also mentioned that the raisers should also look into consideration on the social, environment, disease, seasons and nutrition aspect of breeding cattle.
Some 60 cattle raisers attended the said activity including Board Member Vincent Pagurayan of the 2nd district of Cagayan and Mayor Kim Stephen Turingan of the municipality of Enrile.
